Amid the great expectation and concern of the world progressive people and film makers, the 9th Pyongyang Film Festival of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries was splendidly held in Pyongyang, the capital city of DPRK. Pyongyang Film Festival has been traditionalized as a significant festival which positively contributes to the achievement of the cause of independence by exchanging the success and experience achieved in the development of the national films in accord with desire of popular masses who want independence and peace. This festival gave a big encouragement to the righteous struggle of the world progressive people who are going to achieve independent development of the national film art and build the new independent world and achieve peace of the planet. 61 organizations from 39 countries and 2 international missions attended in the festival and 98 films were submitted. The committee of the international jury consisted of famous film workers from Germany, DPRK, China, Russia and Syria and as a result of fair judgment, Chinese feature film "Gone Is One Who Held Me Dearest in the World" was awarded Gold Torch Prize, the best prize of this festival. During the festival, festival participants esteemed their feelings of admiration to President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il who rendered distinguished merits to the independent cause of humankind. And they gave active support and solidarity to the struggle of our people who advance vigorously through thick and thin and carry forward the construction of the socialist thriving nation and the cause of reunification of the country. The 9th Pyongyang Film Festival has been decorated with significant successes achieved in the national film art of different countries in the world. It has become an important and significant occasion to strengthen the friendship and solidarity between film workers of different countries and strengthen exchange and cooperation in the film art field and develop the national film on the basis of lofty ideal of independence, peace and friendship.
